Construction of the new building commenced in November 2002 with the installation of a huge retaining wall countering the sharp 2.5m drop-off into the adjacent crown land. These corner foundations required extensive compacting and multilayered webbing binding the substrata.
This labour-intensive process carried through until late December when we laid the pad ready for treatment as polished concrete. Using a colour pigment in the cement gave the beach-like hue we sought and after extensive polishing and sealing the hard surace is easy to maintain and looks good.
Construction by Northlea Homes gave us the best possible outcome with Alan & Wayne Hess ensuring the highest quality.
The building was commissioned for accommodation use August 27 2003 with Don Quixote's restaurant opening October 25 2003.
